Plaster

Postby Walt » Mon May 23, 2011 11:35 am

This was my very first sculpture, I made it in September of 2010 out of plaster, wood, and chicken wire. I only had 4 weeks to build it in between class and a full time job. I originally wanted to make it look like pristine marble, but when my form seemed off to me my only choice was to use a hatchet to get the form I wanted. I took a risk and I think it was for the better. I know there is tons of room for improvement and I really want to begin working with clay so I can cast in bronze as my university has a foundry.

I have some other figurative art at metalmans.net, but I really want to work with clay or stone over steel.

If this is you first work I can wait to see how you will progress. Go get clay and keep on and please keep posted

I agree with Raymonde, what a great start. You can only improve from where you bagan; and many would wish they could finish where you are beginning from.

Thanks for all the positive comments, they really boost my motivation levels. Bought some plasticine clay on Thursday. This stuff is awesome I really wish I had discovered clay a few years ago, right now I am using anatomy books as reference and steel wire for armature. My friend knows a model I can use eventually, but right now I am just sculpting figures tearing them down and repeating until I see what works and what doesn't. I also saw my professor at the grocery store yesterday and we exchanged numbers because he is willing to teach me how to cast in aluminum and a few other metals. Once I finish my first figure be ready for some cool pictures.
