David Rogers
I was born in Saint Louis, Missouri in 1957 but grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1974 I began my career in furniture design as a furniture maker
in Lynchburg, Virginia and for thirty years worked in the woodworking field as a furniture designer/maker, design engineer at a chair manufacturer,
project manager at an architectural millwork company and assistant object conservator in a major art museum. I received a BFA in Furniture Design from
Virginia Commonwealth University in 1981 and returned to VCU in 1988 for an MFA in Furniture Design. Since 1992 I have taught furniture design at Kutztown
University in Kutztown, PA.
In 1995 I started developing my life long interest in figurative sculpture and began exploring ways of integrating figurative sculpture into my furniture.
By 2004 I set aside furniture design to focus solely on the sculpture. I have attended figurative sculpture classes at New York Academy of Art and Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Art. Currently I am working with portraiture and exploring the expressive language of the human face.
